No, you don't have to do that.
What do you see when your system first boots up? (Immediately after the BIOS screen disappears) Do you see a blue screen that says:
Press any key to enter menu
Booting CentOS (2.6.18-8.e15) in 3 seconds...
If so, then press a key quickly to see GRUB boot options
