package manager offline

I am trying to get my wireless card to work on my laptop. I downloaded the required packages but the package manager does not work without the ability to go online and check lists. Is there a way to just copy the packages to a folder? Can I get the package manager to work while offline? I am using the Synaptic Package Manager on Ubuntu.

After searching I found I could use the dpkg command thus:

dpkg -iR dirname/

where dirname is the dir with my packages. "i" for install and "R" for recursive.
