you add a printer to a windows computer, then you "share" it. then someone else does:
1) start button
2) run
3) \\windowsHostname\ (substitute the actual hostname for "windowsHostname"
then you add the printer to your computer while it is actually attached to another computer and you can now print to that printer (you share the printer with all of the other systems)
this way many people can use just one printer instead of everyone having to have one attached to their system.
