The word immutable

I saw on the slides thats would and be used to make a file immutable.
In the contact we are using the word, could some one define it.? I look it up but the way define doesn't fit the
way we are using the word.

immutable = unchangeable

By making a file immutable, root (or owner for that matter) cannot change the permissions of the file.
