commands versus process?

I'm behind here....the lab is due Wednesday by midnight I hope?

The quiz is throwing me off here...the first question asks what command shows the current running processes. How does a command being run (ps x) differ from a process being run (ps ef)? The ps x shows the stat, so what is asleep and what is running..... I guess I"m confused over commands and process... :?
