Lab 4 typo or some notation I don't know about.

Network Map - Is this a proper notation?

VMNet4 is shown to be: 192.168.2.4/30
VMNet5 is shown to be: 192.168.2.8/30
ipcalc seems to be ok with crunching ipcalc -b -m -p -n 192.168.2.4/30

so I am going to go ahead as is.....

Can someone confirm that this is proper?

Hi Marc,

For the /30 the first subnet is 192.168.2.0 followed by subnet 192.168.2.4 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252. The broadcast address would be 192.168.2.7 and the two valid hosts would be 192.168.2.5 and 192.168.2.6 which is perfect for point-to-point connections. The next subnet is 192.168.2.8 and the broadcast address is 192.168.2.11 and the valid hosts are 192.168.2.9 and 192.168.2.10. The next subnet is 192.168.2.12 so as you can see to find the next subnet you add four.

Hi Marc,

Fresh in my brain 'cause I've been studying subnetting lately.

Kyle told me about some games that Cisco has, two of 'em are subnetting games, which are pretty addicting and can make you get pretty quick at subnetting.
