Samba integration on Mac OS X

Samba on Mac wasn't as great as Ubuntu. In fact I haven't been able to figure it out completely.

Here's a link discussing how to connect directly to a server.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1568

The article did allow me to connect, but I wasn't able to browse my network community (ie only was allowed to connect to an individual server).

It seems that the features are there, just not as intuitive as Ubuntu. The user interface for enabling shares seems to have changed substantially from prior versions of OS X.

I eventually was able to get Samba connected, but had to change the WINS workgroup on my network connection.
