Hi all,

I finished grading Lab 1. Here are the answers to the questions that were asked:

1) [Part 1] What is the prompt string on Opus?
/home/cis90/guest $

2) [Part 1] What does the history command do?
shows previous commands

3) [Part 1] What is your user id number when you are on Opus?
503

4) [Part 1] What is the name of the shell you are using on Opus?
bash

5) [Part 1] What terminal device did you use to access Opus?
/dev/pts/2 (this varies)

6) [Part 2] What is the name of the local computer?
localhost.localdomain (this varies)

7) What command shows you the other users that are logged in?
who

8) What command shows you the name of the computer?
hostname

9) [Part 2] What three keys must be pressed locally to use terminal tty2?
ctrl+alt+f2

10) [Part 2] If you log off one one session, do you get logged off all the other sessions?
no

11) [Part 2] Is your command history the same for all login sessions?
no

12) What command logs you off?
exit

Here is a manual histogram of Q's marked incorrectly:

1 xxxx
2 x
3 xxx
4 xxxxx
5 xxx
6 xxxxxxxx
7
8 xxxxxxxxx
9 xx
10 x
11 xxxx
12

Everyone got 7 and 12 correct :D Questions 6 and 8 had the most incorrect answers which related to the name of the local computer. Always use the hostname command to determine the name of the computer you are currently working on. The uname command tells you the name of the UNIX operating system running e.g. Linux. The id command tells you tells you the uid (user id number) and username you are logged in as e.g. uid=503(guest90).

I've posted the grades on the web site using the secret Lord of the Rings character names. I'll be giving you your secret character names at our next class.
